JJ, that wasn't the one I was thinking of when you mentioned it further down. The Double Locks is on the river, but on it's own and a bit of a trek.

They used to do a decent summer festival in the summer down there. I'd like to have remembered them well....

Re: Exeter Uni
Leroys, when youu say 'here', does that mean you're down there?

If you get a chance to go into the city centre, try a pub called The Well House on the Cathedral Green - I go there with my Dad, every time I go back there.

View is superb, good range of drinks, and considering the location, you don't get ripped off with tourist type prices.

Re: Exeter Uni
You have to look at it as two universities. My daughter had an offer for a course on the smaller, older campus, the former St Luke's teacher training college. We took her down twice and the atmosphere was very like a private school. Wound up not getting the grades and she went to her second choice but in the end she was very pleased she did.

I think I know which one you mean now - the Double Locks ?

Re: Exeter Uni
JJ, was brought up just down the road from St Lukes in Heavitree. Used to use their tennis courts on the sly and went out with a girl from their hall of residence just at the top end of Heavitree.

Re: Exeter Uni
Raymond,

I don't think that's it. I remember it being a small white washed place with a little footbridge from the road/parking to the pub.

Re: Exeter Uni
Thanks WHU you've brought back memories I have not thought about for a long time.

St' Luke's was just being incorporated in to the University when I was there so I only made the rugby 3rd team, basically the drinking team. Some great nights out there and Topsham!

Re: Exeter Uni
I know that river pub you're on about, but the name escapes me as well, only went in there a couple times.

Re: Exeter Uni
JJ...I only go down there once a month now to visit my parents, but use St Davids Station and each time I pass it, that Red Cow pub seems pretty dead from what it used to be like.

We used to use it a lot when I worked nearby there, had an excellent juke box.

Re: Exeter Uni
Try to go to the below pub:

http://www.waterfrontexeter.co.uk/

They serve pizza in these black metal trays which they call 'Dust Bin Lids' - absolutely delicious and quite possibly the best pizza I have ever had.

Re: Exeter Uni
YES! There was a pub right on the river with small water wheel on the side of it that was part of the 'crawl'. Name escapes me?

Is the Red Cow, near St David's, still there? EVERTHING was red inside the place.

Someone mentioned this at Uni the other day, apparently Exeter is pretty decent

Re: Exeter Uni
Yep, sounds like the same place - the years you're talking about, it was seen as a kind of stopping off place, on the way down to all the clubs by the river - it's changed a fair bit from that now.

Re: Exeter Uni
WHU It was a long time ago! All I remember is that it was on a hill (inclined road) ... The landlord got the students in by doing a 'drink the bar dry' promotion, basically to get rid of his old stock of horrible liqueurs etc ...

Lots of puking in the toilets and on the road outside I seem to recall!

Re: Exeter Uni
The White Heart in the centre?

That's quite a well to do place, touristy type pub now.
